Our Mission StatementThe mission of ChristNet is to provide temporary overnight emergency housing assistance and other services to homeless men, women, and children. We do this by providing a safe secure sleeping space indoors; offering three meals per day; and by maintaining a case manager who identifies and coordinates mainstream resources to help those in need re stabilize their lives. ChristNet promotes cooperation among churches and non-profit organizations as we strive to assist our brothers and sisters in God’s family. |
How We Got Started...The ChristNet Warming Center began with a series of community forums on emergency food and housing needs convened in the City of Taylor in June and September of 1992. The driving force behind these forums came from workers at St. Paul United Church of Christ, St. Cyril of Jerusalem Catholic Church, and West Mound united Methodist Church, all of them in Taylor, Michigan. With the support of a handful of other Taylor churches an eight-week pilot project was organized for January - February 1993. Each participating church agreed to host the new Warming Center for one week. the next year, several additional churches in Taylor and Allen Park offered to host our homeless guests as well, enabling us to expand our season of service and outreach. In the years since, more churches have become affiliated with ChristNet, allowing us to increase the length of our season. This season we will be able to provide 33 weeks of shelter to those in need from October 2007 through May 2008. |
